1/3. Life and Times. A remarkable films found in Blackburn have been restored by the BFI. Shot by the Mitchell & Kenyon company, they reveal a fascinating look at the early 20th century in the UK. Life in the new cities and cotton mills and factories is the focus tonight. Presented by Dan Cruickshank.
2/3. Sport and Pleasure. The first known film of Manchester United is among the Mitchell & Kenyon footage reflecting leisure time in the Edwardian era. There's also a look at the effect extra cash had on both holidays and life at home. Presented by Dan Cruickshank.
3/3. Saints and Sinners. From the first ever crime reconstruction film, to the striking religious walks that were once regular community events in the north of England, Mitchell and Kenyon recorded the full moral spectrum of Edwardian behaviour. The duo also moved into fiction, but as the popularity of cinema grew, the end of an era approached. With Dan Cruickshank.
